Ambassador Thomas Guerber

Director | Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces

Gurber Thomas“Over the years, DCAF has gathered plenty of evidence which shows that the inclusion of the principles of gender equality into the security sectors of partner countries is crucially important for increasing operational effectiveness, enhancing local ownership and strengthening oversight. Conversely, discrimination because of gender identity or gender expression has a negative impact on the security sector. It is also unacceptable from a human rights perspective which is why we at DCAF will never tolerate it, neither in our programmatic work, nor as part of our organizational culture.”

I, Thomas Guerber, support the GGC Panel Parity Pledge.

As the Director of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), I commit to also undertake the following:

  • DCAF commits to support and maintain a work environment that embraces diversity and is welcoming to men, women, and LGBT staff.
  • DCAF commits to increase capacity building on gender for staff with programmatic responsibilities by 50% until the end of 2017, which will contribute to a better integration of gender equality throughout DCAF’s work.
