William Lacy Swing

Director General | International Organization for Migration

williamswing“I plan to monitor closely the implementation of each of these commitments.

Based on our combined efforts — including these three pledges as well as the Organization’s worldwide gender-related projects and our ongoing participation in the UN System-wide Action Plan on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-SWAP) I know that we can make gender equality a reality.”

I, William Lacy Swing, support the GGC Panel Parity Pledge.

As the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), I commit to also undertake the following:

  • IOM will approve the Organization’s new Gender Equality Policy 2015-2019 and present it to the IOM Council by November 2015.
  • IOM’s Human Resources Management Division, under the umbrella of the new IOM Gender Equality Policy, is developing an action plan which will take concrete steps to proactively address and improve gender parity throughout the Organization at all levels, in all occupations and across duty stations. IOM is now conducting research to understand better the IOM diversity landscape, review existing policies and best practices, and analyze relevant quantitative and qualitative data. Based on the research and analysis, HRM will propose key recommendations to assist IOM in moving forward, including targets for representation at the different levels.
